Privacy policy

The short version: adsumRoute is free, has no ads, no accounts and no analytics or tracking. We don't sell or share personal data. Your location is used only to plan and guide your journey, and we don't keep it.

What stays on your device

• The journey you're planning, your settings (theme, units, voice on/off) and, while navigating, the saved directions so they keep working offline.
• Map tiles along your route, cached so the map works without signal.
• If you navigate, approximate places where your phone lost its connection (rounded to about 200 m), used only to warn you about weak signal on later trips. This never leaves your device.

You can clear all of this by clearing the app's data (or your browser's site data for route.adsum.ai). Uninstalling the app removes it.

What is sent to work out your journey

To plan routes, adsumRoute sends the coordinates of your start, stops and destination, and the time you want to travel, to our server (hosted on Cloudflare). It passes them on, without anything that identifies you, to the open services that do the routing:

• Routing: OSRM and Valhalla (run by FOSSGIS e.V.), Transitous/MOTIS (public transport).
• Place search: Photon (komoot) and Nominatim (OpenStreetMap Foundation).
• Live travel information: Transport for London, National Rail (Rail Data Marketplace), and OpenStreetMap's Overpass service (tunnels).
• Maps: your device loads map images directly from OpenFreeMap, which sees your IP address and the map area being viewed.

We don't store these requests or build any history of your trips. Your IP address is held briefly in memory only to stop abuse (rate limiting). Cloudflare processes requests to deliver the service under its own privacy policy.

Location

adsumRoute asks for your location to start a journey from where you are and to give turn-by-turn directions. In the iOS and Android apps, location keeps updating while directions are running, including with the screen locked, so guidance can continue; it stops when you end the directions. Your position is processed on your device. It's only sent to our server when you plan or re-plan a route from where you are (as a start point), as described above.

Share links

A share link contains the destination's coordinates and name in the link itself. Nothing is stored on our servers. Anyone you send it to can see that destination.

Children

adsumRoute isn't directed at children under 13 and doesn't knowingly collect any personal data from anyone.

Your rights and contact

Because we don't keep personal data, there is normally nothing for us to access, correct or delete. If you have any question or request about privacy, email [email protected]. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
